Southampton Choral Society 80th Anniversary Concert at Chandlers Ford Methodist Church
West End Singers are collaborating with the Southampton Choral Society for their 80th Anniversary Concert at Chandlers Ford Methodist Church on Saturday 27th April 2024 at 7:30pm.
Southampton Choral Society will celebrate the occasion by singing, first, Rheinberger’s beautiful ‘Stabat Mater’. Their second work ‘Freedom’, by local composer Ian Schofield, will feature West End Singers. Freedom is a striking work encompassing various genres and telling the story of the Acts of Parliament that led to the abolition of slavery in Britain. This work was commissioned by SCS some 10 years ago when the choir won an award of £10,000 in a BBC competition. Without the award the work would never have been created so we are grateful to the BBC for this opportunity. Shockingly the subject of slavery is still relevant today with many people around the world subject to modern forms of it. Their last work is the ever popular and hauntingly beautiful ‘Lux Aeterna’ by Morten Lauridsen. We hope you enjoy the concert.

Bishops Waltham Rotary Summer Fayre 2024
West End Singers are performing at the Bishops Waltham Rotary Summer Fayre on Saturday 8th June 2024. Come and join us along with the community of Bishops Waltham for an afternoon of fun with stalls, entertainment and games for children, and hopefully plenty of sunshine.
